Goin’ Green (and I don’t mean money)
Here’s a wonderful video produced by Reason TV.
As is plainly evident and likely experienced by the dozens of HTNL readers out there, the green movement is an often culprit for killing jobs in the name of defending “the environment.”
This video touches on other important points. 1. The union between politics and university research which has crippled academic freedom and pigeon holes scientific thought. And 2. The sad reality that scientists who do not fall into line with the political status quo are driven out and black-balled from University work. These are two of a great many reasons I left the pursuit of an academic life. But for those who are concerned about the economic disrepair in the US, the story tells holds great importance as well.
As an aside, I do not endorse all of Reason’s thoughts and productions, though many I find attractive. I’d take their publications with caution. One has to wonder though how influential they would be (and Libertarians in general) if they didn’t spend so much time arguing for why they should be able to smoke pot.
From the union of power and money,
from the union of power and secrecy,
from the union of government and science,
from the union of government and art,
from the union of science and money,
from the union of ambition and ignorance,
from the union of genius and war,
from the union of outer space and inner vacuity,
the Mad Farmer walks quietly away.
